Transitioning to LA

Art by Miripolsky
So, as most of my fans know, I have moved to LA to rigorously pursue my musical opportunities. Why LA you may ask? I believe that the combination of a few factors makes LA a favorable place to be proactive with my music:

1. LA has a strong population of artists/entertainers. LA is flooded with actors, dancers, singers, musicians and OF COURSE song-writers. I have found more songwriters who are "making it" here than I have found in New York. (For me, New York City was more of a Broadway town and a medley of business types- art related or not.)

2. The weather permits for me to stay consistent with and healthy for my gig schedule (I don't have to cancel as much for snow or sickness here).

3. Living as a creative full time seems more possible here. I can actually earn a living off of the artistic projects that I am in, be it musical or related to film/television with out a “plan B job.”

In past two months that I have been here I have made my way to several open mics but I have still not yet found my niche here yet. I am still looking… in the meantime, I have been casted on various different television/film/music video projects with background roles in Cold play’s new video “True Love,” Film Pen of Mirrors, featured extra role in new TV series Pink Collared Criminals, Ever dream and Just for men commercials and was a regular character for The Great Horror Campout tour.
LA is a rough town to get used to initially. The very things that I detest about society are very prominent here: Superficiality, perversion, and sexism are pillars of mainstream media. However, I stay away from those beginner actor roles that require me to twerk, play prostitute, or get naked. Getting comfortable on film should not have to be so hard. Though in the grand scheme of things I am barely seen in the roles I am in (as an extra), I have been able to network with other creatives on set and study the main actors as they perform. Being able to call up and act out an emotion on whim is fascinating to me, and true sign of emotional intelligence. Being able to do this, will ultimately help me as a musical performer.
